1. Recognize that you, along with all of the human race, have sinned.
The Bible says that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). We have all missed the mark of God’s intention for us as individuals. Through our own sins we have contributed to a world that has not loved God with all its heart, soul, and mind. Nor have we loved our neighbor as ourselves (Deuteronomy 6:5, Leviticus 19:18, Matthew 22:37-39, Mark 12:29-31, Luke 10:27,28).

2. Turn from sin to the Forgiver of all sin.
In a sermon by Paul the Apostle he said, "God is now declaring to all men that all everywhere should repent" (Acts 17:30). To repent means to turn away from sin to Jesus Christ. Jesus alone has the power to forgive all sins—after first being declared to be God, He is able to forgive the sins committed against God. Being just, He has provided that forgiveness by paying the just penalty (death) for your sins by His death upon the cross.

3. By faith, receive Jesus Christ.
When a person admits their need for a restored relationship with God and the forgiveness of their sins, the next logical step is to accept God’s solution. By putting faith in what Jesus Christ did for you on the cross, God applies complete forgiveness and restoration to your life (2 Corinthians 5:17-21). Not only that, but Jesus, by His Spirit, causes you to be born again (John 3:5-7). This refers to a new life that enters anyone who accepts Jesus.

4. Be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Jesus commanded His first followers to be baptized (immersed) in the Holy Spirit. Today, this is still a vital aspect of our Christian life. The empowering of the Holy Spirit enables a believer to be an effective witness, receive spiritual gifts, and live a life that expresses the fruit of the nature of God. Please take the time to review the following scriptures that will describe a believer’s relationship to the Holy Spirit’s empowering. After doing so, please be open to all God has for you. Review Acts 1:5-8, 2:4, 8:9-17, 9:17-18, 19:2-6; 1 Corinthians 12:8-10; Galatians 5:22-25

5. Begin to follow Jesus.
Not only does Jesus Christ have a solution for our past but also for our future. You will discover that future as you begin to follow in the path of life Jesus has left us in His Word, the Bible (John 8:32, Matthew 16:24).
